Drum and Bass is vital to this book from start to finish. It’s got some typical Gaimanisms: The two begin a one sided rooftop escape as King Rat carries Saul along. I finished Perdido Street Station with heartfelt disappointment as what had the hope of being a classic, faded fhina ended poorly. The first time I read King Rat, I was stuck at an airport overnight, waiting for an early flight.

There’s something run afoul in London. Eventually interviewed, he is told that his father kkng been murdered – pushed out the top floor window and without given time to grieve or grasp the reality of the situation he must have been fast asleep when the murderer struck the detectives accuse Saul of being the killer.
Two officers assigned to watch his father’s flat on the chance Saul returns to the scene of his supposed first crime are found dead. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t an extra non-living character.
The scene where King Rat educates Saul on the finer delicacies of the ratty palate is particularly disgusting and if it didn’t turn Saul’s stomach, it sure did mine. But I can share what I thought of King Rat. View all 23 comments. His writing is incredibly smug.
This is his debut novel and does not seem to be as widely read or Full Review: Those scenes could have easily been cut back.
However, King Rat bursts from under the stage and attacks the Piper, but proves to be only a momentary distraction. It takes the reader on a flight across the roofs and walls of London, taking my breath away and making me hold the said breath because of the stink of rot and piss that the pages gleefully convey.
